9-11-01

I remember where I was when I heard what happened....

-Senior year
-High school
-I had just finished band rehearsal and was
going into 2nd period, everyone had already heard...

It was such a life changing moment. When you are in high school, you can do anything....you are invincible...

But after you watch 2 planes fly into the WTC, pentagon, and attempt to hit the White House, you realize how invincible we really are.

Every year this day brings me to tears. I will never forget. I hope no one ever will.

Today I am saying a prayer for the families who lost loved ones that day, for our Nation's leaders, and for our troops.

Where were you the day our great country was changed forever?

Chris and I were in Hawaii. He had just returned from his 2nd 6 month deployment and he had taken leave in Hawaii. The ship had just left the day before with the families for the Tiger Cruise back to San Diego. We were woken up at 5:30 AM - I think - by my dad. Mom was freaking out that Chris might have to leave and head back to The Gulf immediately. We were oblivious to what had happened. We turned on the TV and by then everything had happened so the footage really just looked like movies to us. Yet, there were were sitting and watching it over and over again. It felt so very far away for us. Yet, we moved on with our day since we had tickets to see a the Polynesian Cultural Center that afternoon and evening. We were supposed to leave the next day but stayed for 4 more days. It was very strange not having airplanes fly over Oahu. Once I found out that our friends who lived in NY and DC were OK, I felt better. it wasn't until we reached the continental US that it really hit us what happened since security on base had really changed.
