In search of a church

There are many reasons why I didn't like the idea of moving.  Finding a new job, new doctors, new friends, and familiarity were the major reasons, but another big one was finding a church.

When we were living the "high life" in the apartment, we had found a church we really liked attending.  It was close to the apartment, we learned so much from the sermons, but we had a hard time feeling especially welcomed.  Now we live about 30 minutes away from that church, and would like to find something a little closer.

So we began our hunt for a church.  More than anything we just want to have a place to feel welcomed and grow in our faith.  A bonus would be either a young marrieds group or even a life group that we could connect with.

Well we have searched, and searched and found some really "special" churches in the process.

This past Sunday was quite a doozy though...definitely not our cup of tea.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find a church that can become our church home?

Happy Tuesday!

First and foremost, don't be afraid to ask questions. Find out about their history, what they believe. Their website (obviously) can have a lot of information, but the people will be your greatest source of information. Next, and perhaps most important, is follow your gut. This is primarily the reason we stayed at the church we found while we were in our apartment. Our situation was exactly the same, but we hadn't felt led to move.

To me its just a bit awkward no matter what, especially for the antisocial types like me. Just put yourself out there. Ask people in your area and you'll know when you have found it.

Hmm, unfortunately I think the only way to really find a church you like is to just keep going to different ones until you find one that fits, so it can take some time. The most important thing to look for is a good pastor and sound doctrine though - sometimes the people can be great, but if the sermons just aren't doing it for you, you won't grow. I hope you find a great church with a good pastor AND great people! :-)
